From Analogue to Digital Television

Television was brought to Australia in the mid 50’s and it has entertained families ever since. First black and white, then in colour, television spread across the world like a wildfire. Nowadays, a lot of people can’t even imagine their life without it, and some families still spend their evenings together in front of a TV set, just like the Simpsons.
However, a lot has changed behind the scenes and also on the screen. The more obvious changes have been to the image quality itself, as it has improved by a mile, as well as the screens themselves have become much bigger and much thinner. We are experiencing much crisper, brighter and sharper Movie experiences in the comfort of our homes.
But behind the scenes, there has been a much more invisible, but just as persistent shift from analogue to digital television. This means the antennas have to change to be able to receive the new digital channels.
If your family wants to enjoy all the available digital channels and networks available in modern Australia, you need an up to date external antenna installed.

These types of antennas are usually placed on the roofs, however they can sometimes also be located in the attic.

Television Antenna Installations around the Ballarat region

Getting up to the roof and performing electrical tasks such as replacing an antenna can be a complex, dangerous task. Therefore, it is not advised for anyone to attempt this by themselves, but to seek professional assistance to get the job done safely.
Electricians are trained to do these types of tasks quickly, professionally and safely for everyone, and once the antenna is installed, you will have great quality reception throughout your home.

First, the correct antenna needs to be picked that is powerful enough for the signal strength you have in your house. The signal strength is determined by your property's distance from the transmission towers and also by the amount of obstacles in between the two locations. This needs to be measured before purchasing the antenna, a professional team of electricians can measure this for you and help you pick out the right antenna for you to ensure coverage for the entire house.

Common causes for bad reception - When should you replace your antenna?

If your television experience has dropped in quality recently and you are experiencing issues from bad reception, you will need to consider that the antenna may be the cause for this.
There are a few things that may be affecting the image quality, such as:
  • The days of your present antenna may simply be over, it may be damaged or simply getting too old.
  • The antenna is not properly installed.
  • It may also be that the cause is not the antenna, but your television itself, perhaps you have an older TV that is not capable of receiving the digital channels.
  • There may be obstacles between the antenna and the transmission towers that stop the waves from reaching your antenna properly. A different location for the antenna may be a solution for this case.
  • Other large electrical appliances can interfere with reception, so ensure that they are not too close to the television.

In most scenarios, the best solution is to get the situation assessed and opt to purchase a new antenna to replace the old one completely. Antennas can be fixed, but in most cases they are too out of date to bother as they would struggle with the digital channels regardless. We are fully qualified to assist you with the whole process, including assessment of the situation, advice for the most suitable new antenna, safe installation in the best optimal location, testing, and also the removal of the old antenna to be recycled appropriately.
With a new digital antenna, you will have access to all the most recent non-subscription digital channels anywhere in your house.
